CNG tanks
CNG tanks in the gas supply system
CNG tanks are special tanks designed for the storage of compressed natural gas (CNG) in vehicle supply systems. Due to the high storage pressure, CNG tanks are made of robust materials and meet strict safety standards. They have a different design to LPG tanks.
CNG tank types
Composite tanks: Made of carbon or glass fibres reinforced with epoxy resin. They are lightweight and strong, but more expensive than metal tanks.
Metal tanks: Made of steel. They are cheaper than composite tanks, but heavier and less resistant to damage. These are the most common types of CNG tanks offered by ZAMEL Autogas Biała Podlaska.
CNG tanks characteristics
High pressure: CNG tanks store gas at a pressure of 200 to 300 bar.
Multi-layer construction: CNG tanks are constructed from several layers of materials, which ensures their strength and safety.
Safety valves: CNG tanks are equipped with safety valves that open in the event of excessive pressure build-up.
CNG tank installation
CNG tank installation should be carried out by a qualified gas fitter. Assembly includes:
Selection of a suitable tank: The tank must be matched to the type of CNG installation and the size of the installation site.
Tank installation: The tank is attached to the vehicle chassis using a dedicated rack.
Installation connection: The tank is connected to the CNG system by means of hoses and valves.
Leak check: After installation, the installation is checked for leaks.
Are CNG tanks safe?
CNG tanks are manufactured from robust materials and meet strict safety standards. In the event of a failure, the safety valves open and release the gas in a controlled manner. The risk of explosion is minimal.
Advantages of using CNG tanks
Environmentally friendly means of transport: CNG is a clean fuel that does not emit as many harmful substances into the atmosphere.
Low operating costs: CNG is a cheaper fuel than petrol or diesel. In some countries CNG is cheaper, more accessible and more popular than LPG, which is common in Poland.
Long range: CNG cars can cover a distance of up to 400 km on a single fill-up.
Disadvantages of using CNG tanks
Limited availability of CNG stations: CNG stations in many countries are not as widely available as petrol or LPG stations.
Higher cost of installation: CNG gas installation is more expensive than LPG installation.
Higher car weight: CNG tanks increase the weight of the car, which can impair its performance.
CNG tanks are a safe and environmentally friendly solution for powering cars. If you are looking for an economical and environmentally friendly means of transport, CNG can be a good choice. However, be aware of the limited availability of CNG stations and the higher cost of installation.
