Cylindrical LPG tanks
LPG cylindrical tanks
Cylindrical tanks are the traditional type of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tanks used in automotive gas systems. They are characterised by their cylindrical shape, hence they are often referred to as cylindrical tanks, or even 'cigar' tanks.
Advantages of cylindrical LPG tanks
Large capacity: cylindrical tanks generally offer a larger capacity than toroidal tanks.
Easy access: the cylindrical tank is easily accessible for inspection and service.
Disadvantages of cylindrical LPG tanks:
Less aesthetic: Cylindrical tanks are visible in the boot or under the chassis.
Space-consuming: A cylindrical tank takes up space in the luggage compartment.
Installation of the cylindrical LPG tank
The installation of an LPG cylindrical tank should be carried out by a qualified gas fitter. LPG cylindrical tank installation includes:
Selecting a suitable tank: The tank must be matched to the available installation space.
Tank installation: The tank is attached to the car chassis or in the boot using special brackets or a frame.
Installation connection: The tank is connected to the gas system using thermoplastic (thermoplastic) hoses and an LPG multi-valve.
Leak check: After installation, the installation is checked for leaks with a dedicated leak tester.
Is the LPG cylindrical tank right for your car?
Choosing the right LPG tank depends on several factors, such as:
Car model: Some car models do not have enough space in the boot to fit a cylindrical tank.
Range needs: Cylindrical tanks usually offer greater capacity than toroidal tanks.
Aesthetics: The cylindrical tank is visible in the boot or under the bumper.
If you are looking for a low-cost and easy-to-install solution to fuel your car with LPG, a cylindrical tank may be a good choice. However, remember that it takes up boot space and is visible. Consult a qualified gas fitter to see if fitting a cylindrical tank is possible in your car.
Note that compared to toroidal tanks, cylindrical tanks are not such a modern solution. In many cases, the installation of a toroidal tank is recommended if it is possible.
